Make a Family Tree….

The best crafts are the ones that you can adapt to make as simple or as complicated as you like, depending on just howcraft you are.  A great example of this is the Family Tree that we made a little while ago.  You can do a basic version like ours, or you can make it into a work of art, even using photographs instead of drawings like we have done.

To make a Family Tree, you need:
Paper
Glue
Scissors
Photos or colouring pens/pencils

We used some black paper to cut out a tree trunk and loads of wavy branches and arranged them in the shape of something close to resembling a tree, you could just as easily draw this though.

Next we cut out leaf shapes and we wrote the names of everyone in our family on a leaf and drew a picture of them – we considered using photos but as it would have meant cutting up some favourites we stuck to drawing.

When all the family leaves were done, we glued them on to the tree branches and then our family tree was finished.

How simple is that?  It’s also a good tool to use to learn about family, from making this we ended up going through our family photo albums to find pictures of my Nana who died before the children were born.  This led to a lovely afternoon together getting lost in old family memories.
